Love Your Enemies by DonandVicki Faith Flash contest entry |
How is it possible to love your enemy? How can you actually love someone who hates you, wishes that you were dead? After doing some soul searching, and research I came up with a to-do list that may get you and me started on the right path. A direction that may change the situation and possibly make us feel better.
1. Pray for them: Heart felt prayer for your enemy is an act of love and mercy. 2. Help them: If you see your enemy struggle, give them a helping hand. Acts of kindness could possibly win them over to your side. 3. Find commonality: Look for similarities and ways to work together. Make every effort to come to know and understand them. 4. Express love: Show unconditional love by saying nice things, compliment something about their dress, give them a handshake or hug. 5. Understand them: Try to understand your foe's concerns and fears. Try to put yourself in their shoes. 6. Suspend judgment: Try to understand your enemy's motives, fears and concerns. Work together to resolve conflicting issues. 7. Accept your enemy: Accept your enemy for who they are and try to understand their motives, even if you don't agree with them. 8. Put unfairness aside: Try to put aside any wrongdoing and love them as fellow human beings. 9. Consider the source: Keep your enemy's hate and suffering in perspective. 10. Develop humor: Try to Develop friendship, attempt to find humor in difficult situations. If you have tried to do all of the above, and you find that this list requires the patience of a Saint. If you find that absolutely nothing you try seems to work. Then there is only one thing left to do; You must do yourself (and your enemy) a favor, Kill them and cut their head off.
