Her Oppressed Heart

her heart is filled
with orange dawn
and the blinding smoke
of a forest fire
.
her eyes are laden
with the break of day
covered with a mantel
of tangerine flames
.
scorched tree branches
fall around her
threatens to stop
the race against time
.
she must reach him
before death’s breath
blows out her life's light
— the doe needs to reach her buck —
