Mary Had A Little Lamb by bob cullen

Mary Had A Little Lamb

Mary had a little lamb, but there is much more to this story.
An' had a horse and cart, 'long with a plan to restore some glory.
Rain fall ensures good growth, farmer's pray always for a golden crop
Yields promise a healthy return, ensure there'll be a damn good shop.

Henry worked a cattle ranch, a tiny town where the sky's stay clear.
Alaska the fiftieth state, adjoins Can'da, a way north of here.
Defiantly Americans now pray for a long term piece of mind.
Arguing that, that 'Tomic Power's now assured an' so refined.

Logic argues wind remains a source of power straight from our God
Intellectuals suggest Mother Earth lets us roll an' turn each sod
The weather an' the climate and those other things down here on earth
Teacher's don't seem to understand, that God decides what things are worth

Long hard days ev'ry farmer knows, an' work don't always bring reward
Each season brings a challenge, an' each challenge one more problem stored
Lean times teach resolve, teach the need to plan ahead, Nature's our friend
And when we look after her well, we'll always both win at the end

Maybe it's turn we took a look, just check out how we stand.
Buy that book, and take a look, is this how God really planned.
Been a while since I stopped and checked, where I am today
Under duress, my life's a mess, maybe it's time I stopped to pray.

This may seem deep, I'm half asleep, my words are in a flow
Today may be, the start of me, from where this comes I don't know.
Here I am half way through, and I can't seem to find the right word
End though it will, it's not planned yet, that truly sounds absurd.

Right now though, I need a break, "Enry needed to refresh somewhat
Easier to start afresh, don't think 'bout yesterday, it was much too hot.
Instead he takes on a brand new thought, something different maybe,
Something a lot different, he smiled, how about a nice new she.

So where should he go, was he too old to flirt?  Felt like ten again.
Opting to turn up at a dance, what had gotten into his brain?
Mozzied up to a young lass there, she sat slumped down by the bar
Up to dancing with an old bloke, I could teach you the cha cha cha

Cha, cha, cha was something she had never seen or tried do before
His feet moved so effortlessly as he eased her gent'ly 'cross the floor
Motioning her to follow him, she followed but truly wasn't sure
Over three minutes proved he'd found a partner not just for the dance floor

Reality intervened and he was soon headed off to war
Europe taught many things, things he had never learned or seen before
The need for survival, the need to help, the value of a friend
Over those years he learned much more, best rule ever, wisdom never ends

Truth is my best teacher, I met her years ago at a barn dance
Held my hand in times of doubt, and prayed when I was fighting in France
Ev'ry letter I received then, still sits treasured in my drawer
She's the reason I'm still here, she's been gone ten years, seems so much more.

Time has certainly passed me by, but old memories keep me warm
Over the years I've had some luck, and survived the odd bad storm
Reality says I've been blessed by my God, that's for bleedin' sure
You were always the perfect partner, an' not just on the dance floor.
