A lovely little ladybug lays in the shimmering sunlight,
Alone on a leaf, surrounded by morning dew drops.
But without a companion, the ladybug had little delight;
It wanted a friend to share its thoughts.
While the ladybug lay and thought,
Another splash of dew fell on it from what seemed to be the sky.
It pushed the ladybug from the leaf and caused it to sink,
But as it fell, its wings were too wet for it to fly!
The ladybug was fearful as it fell from its leaf,
But as it frantically looked around for something to hold onto,
A mourning dove swooped in and saved the ladybug from its grief,
Setting down the ladybug and sitting beside it; the mourning dove and ladybug had a brand new view.
“Are you going to eat me now?” the ladybug asked the mourning dove.
“Why would I save you if my plan was to eat you?” the mourning dove replied.
“Well… I’m not quite sure,” the ladybug said while looking above.
The mourning dove sighed, “I do not eat insects like you anyway; I much prefer seeds to a ladybug.”
The ladybug looked over to the mourning dove and offered a smile.
The mourning dove spoke, “I would like us to be friends,” and smiled back.
The ladybug answered, “I would like that too. Let us stay here for a while.”
The two were very unlikely friends;
All creatures above and below thought so,
But the mourning dove and ladybug didn’t care who their friendship offends—
They enjoyed each other's company, this they did know.
