Phases (of the Moon) by Monica Chaddick
🌖 writing prompt entry

With a brand New Moon we see no light

In the dark could hide a scary sight

A Waxing Crescent shows up, to the right a slit

It lights up the dark a bit

First Quarter, also called Half Moon

Nursery rhymes sometimes show a cow singing tunes

The Waxing Gibbous is more than half done

Back on the way to a full moon AND sun

Now comes Full Moon, in all of its' glory

What all it has seen would make for a long story

Waning Gibbous each night fades

Making darker each hidden glade

Third Quarter – half on other side

Our glorious moon spreads far and wide

Waning Crescent now comes last

A sliver on the left shows the entire cycle passed

This all comes and goes around every twenty-nine and a half days

The moon ushers in each coming month, and then sends it away

Writing Prompt

Write a poem of any type about the moon. Any type of writing except for prose is permitted.

Author Notes
I truly hope that I got things right in this poem - or at least close to right. Science was never my strong suit. If I have taken liberties, please be kind when correcting me. Thanks!
