: Goodbye Innocence by Gypsy Blue Rose

goodbye innocence

      my old friend

once you were part of me

      like freckles

      ponytails

      and scabbed knees

we were free to roam

      holding hands

     through the streets

     fields

    valleys

    and around creeks

we flew in our dreams

felt the cool air on our faces

      and butterflies in our tummies

      sky diving and ascending

      until we were told

      people can't fly

goodbye innocence,

Mary Smith

Author Notes
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened" - Dr. Seuss'

The name is fictional but the story is based on my own life experiences. When I was little, I had dreams about flying that felt real. The sensations were similar to riding a rollercoaster but I had never ridden one at that age. I remember feeling the wind on my face, being suspended in mid-air, and falling. I can't remember when the dreams stopped.
