No swimmer I, in waters deep.
I’ve too much fear of drowning,
But when I delve into God’s Word,
I find His grace abounding.
I’m not content to splash around
In shallows near the shore,
For venture must I, deeper still,
As Scripture I explore.
And when I dive there in its depths,
I find commands and rules
And learn about His love for me,
More precious than rare jewels.
In studying my Savior’s life,
His teachings that inspire,
To live the way God wants me to
Becomes my heart’s desire.
Washed over by the storms of life,
I feel His presence near me
And rest upon His promise dear,
That when I call, He’ll hear me.
For times I swim in currents deep
And fear what lies ahead,
Then He’s the lamp that lights my way,
And by His hand I’m led.
It’s not enough to glide along
While others need to know Him.
By His example I’m to live
So His love I can show them.
