Two quick jabs, pow pow, followed by a hook to the liver. I pushed it right from my hip, turning my leg slightly to increase the momentum. My opponent, a hulking Thai, humiliated me by smiling. We were in one of Phuket’s bars that organized Friday Thai boxing nights. Amateurs welcomed. Chairs and tables surrounded the elevated ring.
