A poem about desire
Crown of Light by Lilly Desdemona

Upon first laying eyes upon it, the image of its radiance burned my sight,

Through slitted fingers I soaked in every detail each and every golden contour,

It was a promise to a kingdom I would not yet know, a symbol of everlasting succor.

One day this blinding diadem I could call my own, told it was my own rite.

There it stood, inches from my grubby claws, eyes blinded by its crushing might.

Light departed my eyes, and composure regained, within my mind the circlet remained.

Sleepless nights, even in the dark its radiance shone through, sprung forth from my mind.

Tossed and turned until cast into flittering dream, restless and fevered for what I still pined.

Fields of daisy and lilac on endless horizon, in its center golden light poured and stained.

Hapless hand lurched towards it, darkest shadow cast, drawn back, hesitantly refrained.

The waking world offered such little respite, but hours of study tuned my concentration,

Behind every page, golden light seeped, drawing gaze from pen and paper,

Each page a marched step forward to dawning morning, its brilliance brought sweet sapor.

No matter the current contents of my mind, it persisted, that vile infectious temptation.

Sickening desire, I would make that heavenly heirloom my own, to reach personal halation.

Passion burned white hot, seeping forth from head and hands, an overwhelming torrent.

Spewed forth, causing recoil and pause, stared upon, a beastly molten creature of the blaze,

Tucked deeper into the frigid shadows, abandoned in solitude to temper and sharpen my craze.

Return foul beast, return to your prison of paper, return with body and mind less abhorrent.

Pressed back into the mold curing back into that old shape worthy of gaze adorant.

Author Notes
I wanted to write a poem about emotions and what happens when a birthright heirloom becomes an obligation rather than an honorable passing on of an item.
