Alexis was eight when it happened. They lived in the
country and being the older sister, she spent most of

her time with her baby brother, Marcus.

One day, playing outside, they were under the oak tree

on the outskirts of their lawn. Alexis was swinging

on the tree-swing her father made while Marcus, on

the ground in front of her, chuckled each time she

swung forward and made a face at him. He eagerly

waited for every swoop.

He stopped paying attention to her for a moment
and that's when she saw what she thought was a huge
wasp hovering near his face. Little Marcus was in awe
at the sight. She instantly dismounted to save him.

She swatted and it would fly backward but kept slowly
returning. That's when she got a good look and saw it

wasn't a wasp at all. She watched in wonderment as the

tiny fairy floated in front of her, then around her brother

again. From the house, her mother called, "Food's ready!"

At dinner, her mother just blew it off to imagination.

"Treat her nice, fairies are magical."

After school the next day, Alexis hoisted her brother and
raced outside. This time there were five fairies. She

danced among them as they fluttered around her brother.

Each day their numbers increasingly grew. Just outside

the view of the kitchen window, their mother didn't witness

the hundreds of fairies around her children. On the final

day, one fairy blew dust into Alexis's face and she became

disoriented and fell to the ground. From there she watched

as all the fairies lifted her brother and carried him off.

His family never knew what happened but little Marcus

was sold on the streets of the black market.

Sadly, fairies do love that cocaine.
