The General Meeting took off BANG ON TIME.
My CONSCIENCE WAS CLEAR, I'd committed no crime.
The Chairman was throwing me such DIRTY LOOKS
I knew I was languishing in his BAD BOOKS.
A graduate, he, of the SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS
asking his team to THINK OUT OF THE BOX.
In business, he told us, we PLAY A STRAIGHT BAT
making damn sure that we know WHERE IT'S AT.
Let's RUN new ideas right UP THE FLAGPOLE,
while visiting NEWCASTLE minus THE COAL.
Ladies, when GRASPING THE BULL BY THE HORNS
show that you're more than a ROSE BETWEEN THORNS.
Let's maximise profit and TURN A QUICK BUCK;
GIVE NO EVEN BREAKS TO THOSE losers THAT SUCK.
Remember, if you get in OVER YOUR HEAD
the world of high finance is NO ROSES' BED.
And while MAKING HAY IN THE bright shining SUN
our rivals, LIKE KIPPERS, UP WILL BE DONE.

His idioms becoming increasingly strained,
I began to believe the Boss was HARE-BRAINED.
He was BORING ME RIGID I'd had quite enough.
If only I'd been MADE OF much STERNER STUFF.
His WHEELING AND DEALING was DOING MY HEAD IN,
I needed some grub to TUCK IN MY BREAD BIN.
The final straw came when he "DANGLED A CARROT."
I stood up and squawked "I'M AS SICK AS A PARROT!"
I knew I was SEALING MY FATE with the Boss,
In that FROZEN MOMENT did I GIVE A TOSS?

Now I'm ON THE DOLE and quite DOWN AT HEEL,
but I'll never regret that day I GOT REAL.

Author Notes
Loosely based on my brother-in-law*s first board meeting after promotion from the shop floor. He was non-plussed by the verbiage and was very challenging in his responses. It did not end well for him, but I admire his chutzpah.
