Quite apropos of nothing,
it was on a summer's night.
The band in the gazebo
played sweet music with delight.
The warm winds wrapped around us,
like a lover's fond caress.
You wore your Star Wars t-shirt,
I wore my flowered dress.
Above, the moon glowed brightly,
as I swayed in your embrace.
You were oh-so hopeful,
I could see it on your face.
But, we two were opposites,
both in a different place.
We started on the same path,
but we'd not complete the race.
I loved so much about you,
your quirky little smile.
Making love a slow affair,
we would linger for a while.
You liked how I believed in ghosts,
in UFOs and such.
The gentle way I held you close,
all the places I would touch.
Still, we longed for different roads,
you'd go south, I craved the north.
Both of us stubborn beings,
on our own we'd venture forth.
Wanting to relight the fire
underneath the starry sky.
Though loving feelings lingered,
on this night, we'd say goodbye.
The skies above us darkened,
a warm rain came pouring down.
It mixed in with my teardrops,
that fell soft, without a sound.
The burning rains remembered,
making sure we don't forget.
Two hearts that would turn away,
taking pieces of regret.
