Back when I was a teacher in a middle school
Decided to play an April Fool prank
Fill the coffee machine with a strong espresso
Instead of the usual Folgers decaffeinated brand
In walked Mrs. Rubin, our assistant principal
She filled her giant thermos cup to the brim
Took a sip and then two big gulps
Her face lit up with a devilish grin
"Wow!” she said, “What a great new blend”
She sat and enjoyed and refilled her cup
“I feel so energetic, ready for brand new day”
To her office she went, announced over the PA…
“I will be doing performance evaluations today”
She visited classrooms at a frantic pace
After school, in our mailbox was an appointed time
When she wished to discuss her classroom observation
Next morning I filled the coffee maker with decaf
I indeed had learned a significant lesson
That being, an April Fool joke can backfire
Leaving the joker a bigger fool after all
