Abecdarian Poem writing prompt entry

A         At ten o’clock the phone rang.

B         Brian hurried to answer it.

C         Could this be the call he’d been expecting?

D         ‘Don’t build up your hopes.’ he told himself.

E          Everything was depending on this call.

F          Finally his ambitions would come to fruition.

G         Getting this job would solve their financial problems.

H         Harvey his brother had set up the interview.

I           In a few seconds he’d know.

J           Jill his wife encouraged him to apply for the position.

K         Knowledge of the product would be an advantage.

L          Living in another city was no problem.

M         Moving around the country always was a challenge.

N         Now was the right time for a change.

O         Often they had spoken about moving on.

P          Particularly before they started a family.

Q         ‘Quick!’ said Jill, answer the phone.

R         Reaching for the phone he put it up to his ear.

S          Suddenly he was anxious. 

T          Ten other people had applied for this job.

U         Understanding the product put him ahead of his competitors.

V         Very soon he’d know.

W        What if he missed out?

X         ‘X Factor’ achievements could secure this job.      

Y         “Yes- Brian Simpson speaking”.

Z          “Zodiac Promotions here, can you spare five minutes to answer a survey?”

 



Writing Prompt
Write an abecdarian poem, using the 26 letters of the alphabet chronologically. An abecedarian poem is a special form of an acrostic poem, in which the initial letters of the words beginning each line or stanza spell out the alphabet in order.

Oh well the call wasn't what Brian had hoped for. All things come to those who wait.
