A Mother's Love
Face to Face by John Cranford
A poem about a Woman contest entry

What can I say about the One
Whose face I gazed upon
When first my eyes were opened wide
When life had just begun

What can I say about the One
Who nurtured me with love
When I was new, she cuddled me
Joy sent from up above

What can I say about the One
Whom God took way too soon
When on that gray and fateful day
Life's music lost its tune

What can I say about the One
Who left me on my own
T'was then I faced my darkest fear
How would I carry on

But through the sadness and the strife
I grew into a man
She left her imprint on my life
And now I understand

The values she instilled in me
Lay dormant for a while
They blossomed as the years went by
And now I am God's child

What can I say about the One
Whose past I cling to still
Who taught me in life's storms to live
According to His will

What can I say about the One
The marvel of God's grace
There're no words to describe the joy
When again we're face to face
