The flower by Iza Deleanu This Sentence Starts The Story contest entry |
There was a knock on the door. Since the knock didn't resume, Maddy listened and returned to her book. Later, she went back to bed and forgot about the whole thing. As she closed her eyes, the knock moved inside her head.
"Knock, knock, let me in!"
Maddy opened her eyes and touched her head.
Again she heard: "Knock, knock, knock, let me in!"
Maddy screamed: "Who are you? Where are you?" The voice whispered: "I am in your head, but you must let me in."
Maddy, holding her head in pain: "Let you in... where?"
The voice softly: "Let me inside your soul."
"Why?"
"Because it must be done! When you came to Amazon last month, you distributed the balance. You took something that didn't belong to you... do you remember?"
"Yes, I took a tiny flower; I couldn't resist. I always loved flowers... and I thought that it would be okay and nobody would miss them."
"You were wrong; now you need to restore the balance. Let me in, and you will be free."
Maddy cried: "Fine, come in! But please don't hurt me!"
"I promise you will feel nothing."
Maddy frightened: "What will happen to me?"
"Nothing, don't worry."
The next day, when her parents opened the door to Maddy's bedroom, they only found a tiny yellow flower. Until today, nobody has found out what happened to little Maddy. She disappeared without a trace. The yellow flower somehow found her way back to Amazon. A little voice can occasionally be heard: " Knock, knock, knock! Let me out!"
