If I were to study our family tree
it would mystify me
a few years back a lawyer's letter
told me life would be better
an unknown relative overseas
sent two siblings on their knees
but alas though good, it was unfair
neither becomes a millionaire
Family is often misunderstood
loving hearts sometimes brood
words can get in the way
misinterpreted day by day
whatever role we are to take
with small steps we a family make
though the relationships may test
being part of a family means you're blest
I dearly loved my Mum and Dad
now they are gone I get sad
my step-children are all I need
to comfort tease and succeed
like their dad they are tall
which does not please me at all
I feel a bit like the family elf
well, try climbing to the top shelf!
