Once again, she’s gone from Bishop
On that road to nowhere fast
She’ll get to Wickenburg, Arizona
That’s how far her cash will last
That’s her on the phone
Calling with a borrowed dime
Tell her I’m not here now
I haven’t got the time
She’s been that-a-way before
She’ll only try again
Tell her to come this-a-way
Come riding to me in the rain
How’ll she pay for the ticket?
I don’t want to know
her train will follow 93 North
For over 100 miles, on she’ll go
She’s slung her spear once too often
My heart she did impale
I’ll let her come this-a-way
Riding down the Purple Heart Trail*
Then from Bullhead City
O’er the O’Callaghan/Tillman Bridge
North to Boulder City
Past the Las Vegas Expressway, mountain and ridge
Nevada 66 connects to our state
Yeah, she’ll be this-a-way soon
By the time she arrives
There’ll be a full moon
She’ll hitch a ride on California 68
Durned if’n I’ll go for her
She’ll turn onto US 395
Making it that far, she’ll beg for a beer
15 more miles, then to Bishop
Right where she stole my heart
“Darling, did you miss me?” she’ll say
I’ll answer, “I never knew we were apart!”
Just as I predicted, a knock on the door
Y’see, I’m always right
She steps into my life again
In the middle of the night
One look at her and I freeze
Do my feelings really change?
Or does this woman truly own the heart
She toyed with on a 500 mile range?
Why can’t I live without her?
What power has she over me?
Is this unstable woman
To be my Destiny?
She steps towards me, this-a-way
Presses her lips against mine
In place of an eviction notice
-My heart, once more, her Valentine
