We All Belong Somewhere by Douglas Goff Mouse Elephant writing prompt entry |
Enry the elephant looked at momma elephant, feeling great joy at birth. When momma looked at Enry she tooted a loud trumpet with her long nose, fleeing in terror, leading the herd away. He couldn’t understand why his family abandoned him. Enry rose to his feet, trying to trumpet back, but his small nose only squeaked. No matter, he’d learn. Enry followed the fleeing herd, but his feet were too small to keep up. No matter, he’d learn. Then he saw what all elephants fear. A momma mouse with her children. Enry fled through the brush in panic. He ran until he reached the watering hole and could go no farther. He turned to see the mice had followed him. Enry looked back at the water seeing his reflection. Enry wasn’t an elephant at all, but a mouse. The mischief of mice behind him were his family. Enry had learned.
