I lost my voice but not on stage
I used it though to earn my wage
on the phone I could not be heard
my boss like a kindly Mumma bird
told me to get the voice checked
and of rest please select
my doctor agreed with the bird
insisting without rest was absurd
My mother was not impressed
with my doctor who extended the rest
determined to tell him what she thought
she waltzed into his room seeking to blot
any decision he had made
of men she was unafraid
I was to stand though and wonder
watching the greatest Mumma blunder
He looked at me with kind eyes
venturing with words so wise
that if I worked on the phone all day
rest was the best way
and dearest Mumma would never again
question his decision that was plain
Mumma was put in her place
yet I was the one in disgrace
Looking back Dad had just gone
to his Heavenly home
her behaviour was simply grief
I was embarrassed beyond belief
I wrote a letter of apology
never mentioned but I could see
proof that of it he had received
it is the truth but hard to believe
