A Little Halloween Dark Humor

Marie, the Voodoo Queen

glided across the Piney Woods

foraging for herbs, spices, and roots

as she was a gifted cook.

She was well-known in town

for her culinary gift.

Kids knew she had the best treats:

home-baked cookies,

chocolate fudge,

and juicy red apples

Marie loved Halloween

and enjoyed sharing

her tasty food,

especially with runaway youth.

Once a year

she invited the town folk

for a feast fit for Kings and Queens

everyone loved her Louisiana Beef Stew

   her secret ingrediant—

young tender flesh

Author Notes
A little Halloween dark humor.

The most famous voodoo queen was Marie Laveau (1794-1881). Louisiana Voodoo is an African religion that originated in Louisiana. It arose through a process of combining traditional religions of West Africa, the Roman Catholic form of Christianity, and Haitian Vodou. No central authority is in control of Louisiana Voodoo, which is organized through autonomous groups. wikipedia

Piney Woods is a real place in Louisiana.

Thank you for taking the time to read my poem.
