I was going through my old albums (yes, vinyl LPs) recently, and remembered how much I loved listening to the Mamas & the Papas. The poem I've written, above, was inspired by the 1969 hit 'Make Your Own Kind of Music', sung by Mama Cass Elliot, the chorus to which is:
But you gotta make your own kind of music
Sing your own special song
Make your own kind of music
Even if nobody else sings along.
The song has gained popularity again through being featured in the Barbie movie.
