Life's flowers by Loretta Bigg Your Life in 150 words writing prompt entry |
At my birth, my mother grew a wallpaper garden with baby breath flowers. It made me cry with happiness, so she spanked me and I sobbed and sobbed.
Soon my parents pushed me into shiny shoe school, where, there, wow, a garden with roses and lilies and petunias. No time. We learned, homework, learned, homework, then PROM! How the garden bloomed. Then Grad! What now? The Garden? No. I peeked in various windows. Barred. I could see the garden grow joyous, full of love, but I couldn't go in. No time. Work travel work home work love work. Retirement? Yippee! Free Free! Garden! Cancer Weeds crashed the party. NOOOOO! Why now!!?? Some time I still see it, though, exotic nightglow maracuja rivers and tropical toucan trees that sing: We wait for you. Not ready yet but soon enough, garden.
