Author Notes
The poem is a metaphor and reflects the rotting of our society and all that we have lost as human beings. Ignoring our natural instincts of the barter system, helping of our neighbor no longer exists. The soul is give and take without expectations of something in return. We have lost a fundamental link to compassion which we all must have compassion and empathy.not sympathy. So for me this problem is symbolic of that
