: Grateful Songbird by Jessica Wheeler

from their sheltered nest

who do the songbirds sing to

when they serenade?

their song is a gift

sung to the tree they sing from

Author Notes
MONDO FORM: 2 stanzas of 3 lines each, 19 syllables or LESS, often 5/7/7, or 5/7/5 for each stanza. The first stanza is a question the second stanza is the response. Usually, mondo is a collaborative poetic form but for this club event, one poet will write the question and the response. Mondo gleans meaning from nature in the spirit of Zen through meditation and observation of natural surroundings.
