Penny hid the tiny piece of cheese under her pillow as Bitty, her pet mouse, looked on. "We'll eat again tomorrow," she said.
Planes rumbled overhead, and sirens sounded again and again. She'd share the cheese as long as it lasted, maybe a day, maybe two, then on to Bitty.
