I had a thought today, simple was the regard
A memory, in fact, one I could not discard
Of an evening spent when we stayed by the water
And the rainy night puzzle I did with my daughter
Caught her eye perusing a bookshelf in the den
Of the cozy scenic cottage we vacationed in
Her eyes wide with excitement, she proudly shared her find
Complex this puzzle was, on which she set her mind
The puzzle before us was challenging and vast
I watched her smile fade to disappointment fast
Sorting through pieces, missing one, maybe two
Glancing at my girl, I wondered what she'd do
A roller coaster puzzle right when begun
Determined is my child, so she proceeded on
Saddened me to see her moments of discourage
And reminded me of a time when I was her age..
Faith strong then, I'd pray every morning and each night
Calling God my “penpal,” journal letters I would write
Unexpected troubles that no child should endure
Happened upon me, making my faith not so sure
Though puzzling at times my faith, it stayed through the years
Some of which brought miracles, some brought endless tears
Often I'd feel hopeless, even now reminiscing
Faith restored as I compiled the pieces missing
I turned to my daughter, deeply concentrating
Assured her ill be with her if ever debating
And forward we would push, no matter the cost
Even when discouraged, or many pieces lost
Putting faith in God above our doubt, above it all
Trust in Him to see us through the big and the small
If something is missing, replace it with your faith
And watch as your puzzle starts to form and take shape
If courageous and kind, you'll always find peace,
And with faith in your heart, worry and fear will cease
Have trust in the process even in your mistakes
For there's a bigger journey of each path we take
Patient but persistent we re-approached our task
And we puzzled on confident we would soon bask
We moved around the pieces to see what would fit
And trusted in our faith that we would finish it
The picture starts forming, almost looking complete
Two pieces still missing though, we checked by our feet
Then she had a thought, proud of it and of herself
She ran back to where she started, at the bookshelf
It was there that she found what we'd been looking for
What wasn't In front of us, by our feet or on the floor
But back where she began, where the idea was new
Puzzle with her Mommy was all she wanted to do
Together, we reached the end of our path taken
Free of any doubt, and our Faith unshaken
I'll think of this puzzle and the path to complete
Thanking God for these days, and Faith without retreat
