in my waking mind
a delicate hourglass appears
moments of one's life
in grains of sand
cascading through the neck
from the upper bulb
falling into time's nothingness
lost to the past
but yet I live
my eyes flutter open
to a new morning
before the rising sun
moonlight guides my journey
through the darkened rooms
stopping for a moment
I feel my heart
the timepiece of life
pumping my blood throughout
dancing along the arteries
returning in the veins
while seconds tick by
the sand continues flowing
how many hours remain
before this body falls
for we are time
encapsulated in our form
birth starts the clock
death will silence it
the minutes in between
bring thousands of emotions
love, pain, joy, loss
do they mean anything
while the sand flows
another clock begins ticking
an orange hue beckons
through the window shade
the tip of the sun
escapes the expanding horizon
counting down the moments
of this daily gift
one with no guarantee
except the love given
a gentle touch shared
bringing a brilliant smile
what am I leaving
for my cherished ones
silent thoughts will end
hidden emotions fade away
without sharing my joy
lost smiles become tears
from little blue eyes
heaven forbid - love wins!
our Creator masters time
a toy to Him
ribbons woven through minds
delicate lace caressing shoulders
yarn tied around fingers
my time means everything
creating, teaching, giving, worshipping
my loving Lord, forever
walking in His footsteps
until the sand stops
