The snow outside is silent, deep, and cold,
our Minnesota winters last and last.
The memories of springtime that I hold
are bringing me to warmer days long past.
The scent of lilacs sweetly fills the air,
while trees put on their leafy gowns of green.
The birds sing tunes while building nests with care,
a carpet of sweet grass completes the scene.
The waterways freed from an icy grip,
delight us all with waves that bounce with glee.
Soon, warm enough they'll be, to take a dip,
won't all of you come take a swim with me?
For just a few months, stoic, we must be,
soon all the best of nature will unfold.
It's worth the wait, the beauty we will see
and all the wonders springtime surely holds.
Beyond this winter scene, blue skies await,
the gentle winds will soft, caress our skin.
The happiness my thoughts bring won't abate,
I just can't wait for springtime to begin.
