it’s the season of turkey and dressing
but the Spirit of Thanksgiving seems to be stressing
thanksgiving is coming but the holiday is droll
the glorious festivities of the other holidays having taken its toll
a pilgrim’s day glory hasn’t much to offer
when compared to the rest of their bountiful coffer
the Spirit of the Fourth of July is so very proud
brilliant lights and explosive fireworks draw a great crowd
hotdogs and hamburgers grilled up so good
the red, white, and blue displayed all over the neighborhood
a shindig done right
makes Uncle Sam smile bright
Memorial Day is so respectful and solemn
the nicely dressed soldiers all marching in column
massive parades with confetti and balloons
no giant air-filled turkey buffoons
wonderful speeches about long gone days of glory
each unit reports proudly, everyone with a story
when the Spirit of Halloween comes about, it’s no slouch
no grandpa snoring loudly passed out on the couch
the kids dress up in costumes so bright
intent upon giving everyone a fright
candy baskets so full with howls of Trick or Treat
ghouls, goblins, and witches venturing out on the street
and what of Christmas with a fat man all jolly with beard
strange how the children don’t find that weird
songs and candies, snickers and doodles
presents like trains and miniature poodles
decorative trees, wreaths, caroling and candy caning
what’s Thanksgiving to do, it all seems so draining
the spirit of this season has no mascot, songs, or candied treats
just a plump juicy turkey that gets carved up for meats
sure there’s good drinks and plenty of foods
but this all leads to very somber sleepy moods
the other holiday spirits are bold, hectic, stressful, and always reaching for more
the Thanksgiving Spirit’s frown turns to a smile, thankfulness is what his day is for
