Why?? They are beautiful birds, especially in flight.
45 million turkeys are slaughtered and eaten each Thanksgiving,
22 million on Christmas and
19 million turkeys on Easter.
The pilgrims, according to historians, didn't even eat turkey during that first historical celebration.
