Clouds – grey, dark, threatening
Bring trauma to children
Dreading another fearful flood
Is grey the colour of rain?
Torrential downpours widen eyes
Grey is the colour of fear.
Prayers offered and answered,
Finally there is a patch of blue
The silence, spelling relief
Broken now by thrilling bird-song
Little eyes widen, looking up
Blue is the colour of hope.
The golden ball of yellow
Welcomed with joy by all …
Warming and drying land
Yellow is the forgotten friend
Eyes widen with excitement
Yellow is the colour of relief.
