I celebrate death as a new beginning
Passing On by Tom Horonzy
Rhyming Poem contest entry

When a mortal host
gives up its ghost
all the pains
remain
behind them.

The spirit child
that was here awhile
is greeted again
by family and friends
in an everlasting reunion.

The longer they stayed
the more alone they became,
as their kids moved on
to live lives of their own,
thus, receiving regards
and cards only occasionally.

Perhaps, it is best,
death be celebrated
as the departed graduated
to a better way of life
without strife.

Welcomed with cheers
not streaming tears
one life ends as another begins
never having to die again.

Author Notes
Photograph by me. Fittingly thoughtful, for someone who lost a loved one. If only we understand.

My sister passed this morning for a glioblastoma tumor in her head. She is in pain no longer.
