Dr Seuss type poem for kids ~let the comma guide the rhythm
What Would You Like to Do Today? by Debi Pick Marquette
Children's Poem writing prompt entry

What would you like to do today?
Would you like to play a game of croquet?

If I may - I'd love to play - a game of croquet - inside a cafe
Maybe they - will let us stay - eat fish fillet - catch of the day

But now they say- that we can't play- a game of croquet- in the cafe - eating fillet
So they bid us all a very good day- then they sent us on our way

(but they did send us some fish fillet)

So now, what do you think we should do?
I think we should do, what we want to do

Out of the blue- I don't have a clue-try something new- how bout the zoo?
There is no school- sky is blue- found my shoe- let's ask mother too

I should be ready in just a few- my hair is eeew- I must shampoo!
Ask sister Sue- if she too- would go to the zoo- with the two of you.

So mother, me, Sue and you- all had a great day at the zoo.
We saw lots of animals -  and birds; quite a few

We climbed up a slide- and oh what a view!
And a big Yahoo - we're happy you - came with us too!

Author Notes
My grandbabes loved to sit on my lap and around my chair as we made up many versions of our own Dr Seuss type poems. They don't stay all with the same rhythm for each line, but that's what made Dr Seuss so much fun to read!
This one my grandson, Carter (goober) helped me with when he was six.
