When your world falls apart
Pieces by Rosita Smedvik
Sad Poems writing prompt entry

Warning: The author has noted that this contains the highest level of violence.
You took every piece
Everything I had to give
And more
Every harsh word you spoke
Every slap to my cheek
Every handful of hair
Pieces of me discarded
Thrown away

Edges now all tattered and torn
No more pretty to be seen
Just hollowness
A silent ornament
For your rage and ineptitude
Me drowning in despair
The new collective of my life
Laying ragged on the ground
Jumbled and messy

I can't lose any more of myself
There is so little left now
Nothing resembles the girl
Who blossomed under your first touch
Who blushed at your first kiss
Who softly cried when innocence was lost
Your touch so gentle then

When had you changed ?
When had I ?
When had all this
Become OK
Become acceptable
Become normal

One more chance
A mantra of my life
To hold my breathe
Hold my words
Bite my tongue
A cry for help
Aching to be freed
But the fear was immobilizing

So I smiled
Smiled for the world
While bits of me
Fell through my fingers
Love hurt
It shattered
It degraded
And I think eventually
I'll be no more

Writing Prompt
Sadness has overcome us all at one time or another. Either caused by a relative or close friend's death or from the girl or guy that broke our heart or just life in general. We all handle situations differently, some good, some bad. This contest gives us the ability to explore this. Your poem can also play into other emotions that are common to writing like this such as anger or depression.

Author Notes
I watched a friend living through an awful domestic situation for years. But she got out, finally.
