Death did come knocking
Last night on my door
I told him to wait
I was mopping the floor
He grabbed the remote
And turned on the TV
I got out a pitcher
And made some iced tea
We laughed at a comedy
And cursed at the news
We cried at sad movies
With our similar views
I made up some popcorn
And gave him a bowl
Then put on a jacket
And went for a stroll
I walked down the street
And caught the next bus
If death is at my house
And I'm here, that's a plus
I'm not sure that I'll ever
Return to my home
Death's on my couch
Perhaps I'll just roam
I'll go to far places
That I've read about
Until I'm tired of traveling
And then with a shout
I'll call out to death
Put down that remote
I'm ready to leave
Let's launch your boat

Writing Prompt |
Write a poem of any type that treats a serious subject as humor.
|
Author Notes
I don't write very many poems, but I liked the theme for this contest so I thought I would give it a try. Death is something that most of us wouldn't welcome. We are afraid of the great unknown afterwards. Fortunately, Jesus conquered death, so we no longer have to fear it if we're believers.
