A contronym poem
Left: Departed or Remaining? by Jenifer Bellott
The Contronym contest entry

Left
That's what she did
She left the world
and me alone in it

Left
to right, I read
her living will
A burden bittersweet

Left
to her first born
a locket old--
long-cherished and well-worn

Left
upon my cheeks
hot streaks of loss
Inside, our photos beam

Left
I am bereft
and memories
are all that I have
left

Author Notes
I chose the contronym "left" for its versatility. In the first line, it means "departed" while it's antonym in the final line means "remaining."

Below are all included uses of the word "left":

Line 1 - Departed
Line 3 - Departed
Line 5 - Cardinal direction opposite of right
Line 9 - Bequeathed
Line 13 - Caused/created (by the eyes)
Line 17 - Abandoned
Line 20 - Remaining

This is not a biographical poem; it was composed specifically for the contest.
