I give you daisies
And tulips and peonies
As you lie here
In your final resting place,
High on this far off hill--
Peaceful--the sound of late autumn--
Crickets and birds and bees
Filling the silence
The space around you.
In the spring there will be flowers
I gave you a red tulip for each year shared:
The daisies and peonies
Were for all the special moments
And memories--
Shared, yet not lost with you.
I only hope you knew
How much I loved you.
And how I have missed you.
You were more than a lover, a husband
You were my friend.
But there are new friends and faces;
And I may move on.
So I planted part of me with the flowers--
So part of me will always be with you.
I take part of you with me--
The memories of times shared;
The joy, the laughter, even the pain;
And yes, the hurt of days
Never to be shared.
Life moves on, slowly, interminably;
Forcing change.
And so I must leave you
In this place
You chose to be your last,
Among the people you loved so dear.
Sleep softly, dear heart.
