When I was three years old,
Aunt Mary gave me a piggy bank
Said the bank would help me save money
Piggy became mine some 78 years ago
At first, I thought the bank was kind of girly
Piggy is a creamy white ceramic pig with
Mary attired in a red, puffy, sleeved dress
A blue ribbon adoring her blonde hair,
Her little lamb has a blue ribbon too
Saved my money in Piggy until I was
Old enough to open a bank account
Believe it or not, I still have red-eyed Piggy
My regret is 63 years ago I took a flatware knife
Worked the coins out through a hole in her bottom
I wish had left the coins as reminders of my youth
Piggy has a place of honor on a bookshelf in our house
My daughter has put her name on Piggy’s bottom
Saying she would like to have her when I pass away
Pleased I am by her wish now I can rest easy
Because I know Piggy will be in a good place
