Power and Poverty by royowen

Men's eyes will see the vessel,
not what its heart contains,
We speak condemning language,
not truth that love retains,

We're deaf to hope's bright message,
hear not its tolling bell.
Not drinking of faith's fountain,
from depths of wisdom's well.

Too late we gaze through windows,
where grace and love have walked.
Desiring not love's purpose,
while shadows softly stalked,

Not hearing while light's burning
before one's final breath.
The veil of blindness rising
revealing life in death.

I feel that final warning
it's time's eleventh hour.
Five maidens' lamps not burning
in shadow's darkness cower.

Author Notes
In the Bible the parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25:1-13 (five wise, five foolish) Jesus echoed the scripture in the OT in Jeremiah 2:2, presenting God as the bridegroom as in Matthew 25. It speaks of the Lords return, and the readiness of wise virgins, and the unreadiness, concerning oil for the lamps, oil speaks of the power and the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit, the five unwise had lost that power, so when the Lord returns they would miss Him, the door is locked.
