Jeopardy by DragonSkulls ~ Family Fiction Story ~ writing prompt entry |
The whole family was out eating at Golden Corral when I said we needed to take off. The relatives were a boring bunch and the main reason was because Jeopardy was coming on at eight. We don't miss Jeopardy, simple as that. We tore into the driveway at five 'til, jumped out and headed indoors, turned on the TV and flipped it to Fox. My daughter said, "I wonder if she'll win again today?" "I sure hope so," I replied, making reference to a one Amy (I won't say her last name so I don't risk being sued.) She has won thirty-nine consecutive games of Jeopardy in a row. That is phenomenal. No woman has ever done that on this show...EVER. We watched as she answered these ridiculous questions like they were simple common knowledge. My son asked, "What in the world does that question even mean?" "It means we're all stupid, son," my wife jokingly replied. I agreed and chuckled. At the end of the show, we all jumped up and cheered. She won again. Forty in a row. My wife and I both cheered and downed another shot of wine. The kids danced around the room for joy. After the show, we were watching the news. They had a segment that brought up our current Jeopardy winner. They mentioned that the winner, Amy, of the last forty games was actually a transgender. That's when I blurted out, "It's crystal clear now, it all makes sense. How could I not have seen this?" Everyone looked at me quizzically, then Brandy asked, "What do you mean, Dad?" "Can't you see? It's right there in plain sight." I was gesturing to the television. My wife joined in. "What's in plain sight? What are you talking about?" "Amy, the winner of all this money. Isn't it obvious?" She continued, "Isn't what obvious?" "She's a woman..." "Yeah, so?" "...with the intelligence of a man!" My son laughed out loud. My wife and daughter just got this look of disdain across their faces. "You're a moron, Dad." My wife just shook her head and smiled. My boy gave me a high-five as we laughed, then went back to watching TV.
