A Killer Show by Boogienights
    T.V. Tribute Contest Winner

My favorite show's character was born in blood.
Perhaps...but who can say?
A traumatic event set him on his path,
eight seasons of seeking out prey.

His adoptive dad, Harry, gave him a code,
the first rule; "Don't Get Caught".
Bad people, his victims, who evaded the law,
he was a killer who was very well taught.

A blood spatter expert who worked with police,
he found many victims that way.
The body count rose with every show,
he charmed his co-workers each day.

His cop sister Debra did not have a clue,
for he was quite clever you see.
"A very neat monster", he called himself,
but a good brother also was he.

The urge he had was given a name,
his "Dark Passenger" would ride along.
If "Tonight was the night", then he'd take a life,
in his mindset he righted a wrong.

A serial killer who dispatched those like him,
we liked him, though that might seem odd.
Whether the Devil incarnate,
or avenging angel of God...

It didn't matter, his fan base grew,
who would, on his table be next?
It didn't matter, we rooted for him,
fooled police who would always be vexed.

The very last season left fans wanting more,
ten years later we saw season nine.
Unresolved issues they sought to resolve,
the ending, to me, was a crime.

So much better, the world was made,
when
Dexter was on the case.
His dark urges he would satisfy,
and evil he'd erase.
