I have a dream of peace throughout the land,
But what I see is hard to be endured.
I can't believe that this is what was planned
When freedom from the king was once procured.
This dream I have is only when I sleep.
For we live in a nightmare every day.
It's now that I just look around and weep
For all the good things we let slip away.
If only we could find a common cause
Uniting those who had opposing views,
Then conflict in this country would take pause,
And we would just see good things in the news.
But I'm not sure that my dream will come true,
For what I see does not look great to me.
I hate to think the good times are all through,
And freedom gone from sea to shining sea.
Now I still have to struggle through each day,
Awaiting for the devil's curtain call.
But I will get down on my knees and pray
That God will intervene and save us all.
