The Contest Gold (a sonnet) by DragonSkulls
    Emotional Dependency Contest Winner

Each day I'd wake with purpose to my need
and keenly wait the challenge to behold.
I lived to fill the longing of my greed
while basking in the wealth of member gold.

I'd write such tender words to snare the heart.
So cleverly I'd bait their timid wants,
then gain the votes for ruse they saw as art
and paint the fraudulence with pretty fonts.

But I no longer care for gold or fame.
The masses yearn what six-year-olds can write,
and I'll not wade nor wallow 'mid its shame
for tarnished gold that shines a lesser bright.

The value of our words, can we restore?
I once believed that poetry was more.
