I need to lose a few more pounds
And spend a little less
I need to burn through exercise
Those calories and stress
I need to pause and count to 10
When my wits end I reach
I need to listen to myself
And practice what I preach
I need to conjure up the nerve
And put my fears from thoughts
And not be such a fraidy-cat
Of dentists, docs and shots
The house-chores that I’ve slipped aside
I need to quick address
I must resolve to write much more
Procrastinate much less
I need to use the calendar
A lot more now you see
I’m getting more forgetful
Than I ever used to be
If only one of these mere things
I’d trouble to resolve
The key to honor all the rest
Might be more clearly solved!
And then my Resolution List
Would surely start to wither
As one-by-one my list would shrink
And dwindle to a sliver
But as I know myself quite well
There's truly no debate
My list will surely quick “resolve”
To meet its yearly fate!
