I met a beggar on the street today
Today was so cold, the skies were grey
Grey was his face covered with frost
Frost bitten hands spoke of his loss
Loss of his dignity loss of a life
Life had push him down to this strife
Strife such as this I knew nothing about
About his life my questions came out
Out there in the shivering cold
Cold hard truths I was told
Told me he did about a war
War that he was drafted for
For what that war was about - it was hard to tell
Tell me he did about a living hell
Hell in the trenches where life was unkind
Unkind enough to steal men's minds
Minds coming home were rattled and lost
Lost and forgotten for they'd paid the cost
Cost now ignored they stumble alone
Alone in the streets they call their home
