Growing Up In The Sixties by Boogienights
Childhood writing prompt entry

I recall the games we used to play,
freeze tag, kickball, red light, green light.
The "pump" was opened on days that were hot,
where we'd cool off 'till day turned to night.

We stayed out all day inventing games,
imagination back then was the key.
Without video games, internet, and cell phones,
we still had lots of fun that was free.

We both liked to read, my brother and I,
comic books were his favorite back then.
And I loved the books of Dr. Seuss,
his characters became like my friends.

Growing up on Chicago's south side,
poor, but happy I was as a kid.
I love to think back on those halcyon days,
wonderment found,  in all that we did.
