The theatre was quite beautiful,
it took her breath away.
She hoped that she'd be on the stage,
auditions were today.
She rose before the sun was up,
She didn't know the play.
But she was a good actress,
drama roles were her forte.
A script, to her provided,
She was nervous through the read.
Her mouth felt dry but it went well,
she had a burning need...
To see her name up in lights,
performing, her greatest love.
Called back twice, she won the part,
the role fit like a glove.
On opening night, quite ready,
she was to wow the crowd.
Their applause would laud her,
accolades shouted out loud.
The play began, but suddenly,
the theatre lights went out.
A flickering was seen backstage,
a fire had broke out.
To her great horror flames spread quick,
the panicked audience fled.
A cast member by fire consumed,
upon the stage lay dead.
It was HER name though, up in lights,
and this show must go on.
She continued her performance,
quite obsessed, her mind was gone.
Before the empty theatre,
she continued with her role.
Until the fire reached her,
and her passion took its toll.
The theatre was quite beautiful,
but it's no longer there.
Every night though, she's on stage,
her spirit unaware.
