There’s more to successful employment than financial incentives and fancy titles. Helping homeless individuals and families was one of the better jobs in my long human service career. I remember the first homeless parents I met. The father carried one piece of luggage that held all their possessions. They didn’t fit the norm. How did it happen? The truth is that many people live one paycheck away from destitution.

"Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." --Mother Teresa

I worked for St. Mary's Interfaith Dining Room for three years. I managed the outreach program helping homeless people to find housing and employment, among many other services. We had the only shelter school in the nation. Homeless children can't attend school because they don't have an address so our program was exceptional. We also had dentists and doctors volunteers. The other two better jobs were teaching adults with employment barriers and advocating for victims of rape. These were non-profit jobs and didn't pay much but they were very rewarding. st mary's dining room more info , st mary's school for homeless kids more info
