Open for Business? Men are Pigs! by Elizabeth Emerald Artwork by Linda Bickston at FanArtReview.com |
As per my weekly routine, I stopped by to visit my friend Scott this afternoon. I found him in the side yard, talking to a striking twenty-something strawberry-blonde, whom I'd never before seen. Scott introduced us; Jane and her husband had recently moved into the house two doors down from his. Scott, a one-man welcome wagon, had waved Jane over as she passed by, shortly before my arrival. Jane was pleasant, though somewhat reserved, in that she seemed hesitant to engage in conversation. She appeared to wince as Scott asked how she and Joe were settling in. Scott, ever sensitive (heads-up ladies: not all men are clueless), picked up on Jane's discomfort and inquired as to whether there was anything amiss. Jane flushed, and cast down her eyes; then, abruptly, looked up and blurted: The men in this town are pigs! With a bit of prodding, Jane explained her outburst. She'd be sitting on her front porch, and be rudely accosted by lewd suggestions from leering drivers. I was shocked at this revelation; Scott, on the other hand, nodded knowingly. He gave us the backstory. The former owner had rented the house to a quartet of euphemistic ladies of ill-repute. The men who availed themselves of their services were unaware of the change in tenancy; thus, they assumed Jane, sitting on her porch, was "open for business."
